A Lapis Lazuli base (or pieces of mother of Pearl) is applied to a hollow sphere, then shapes of countries and continents are cut to shape from real semi precious gemstones and affixed to the globe. Lettering is applied to show country, sea and area names. Several coats of laminate are applied during the process to protect the finish of the globe.
